People's Community Market: A friend and partner

We are often asked about the status of the much anticipated grocery store and wanted to make sure that everyone understands People’s Grocery’s relationship to the store project.
Although the store project grew out of People’s Grocery’s programs, vision and strategic plan, the work of creating a store is actually being done by another sister organization. People’s Community Market was formed in mid-2010 as a separate for-profit business.
Co-founder of People’s Grocery, Brahm Ahmadi, is the CEO of People’s Community
Market and is leading the project. This community grocery store will
offer fresh, high quality foods in West Oakland, as well as a variety of
services and social activities geared at engaging and supporting the
health and well-being of local families. The project is currently in its
financing stage and is looking to begin construction in the summer of
2011.
You can check up on the project’s status at their website: www.peoplescommunitymarket.com.
Although People’s Grocery is not directly involved in creating this
business, we will be partnering closely with the store to provide
events, health counseling, community outreach and comprehensive services
to its customers and employees. We very much look forward to the
store’s opening.
