Bus Rapid Transit-What could it look like? Check out this animation
A BRT station at Telegraph and 49th
As AC Transit prepares to release its final plan for BRT, people are buzzing with questions about the design. How will it interact with cars and bikes? What will the station areas look like? How will people walk between the stations and the surrounding area?
Among the materials AC Transit produced last year, as it was working with the cities to create a draft design, is this short video.
The video does not reflect the final plan for BRT (it still shows dedicated lanes in Berkeley, which were shot down by the Berkeley City Council last year), but it does show a reasonable prediction for International Boulevard and Telegraph in Oakland.
It also addresses a few common questions, such as "How will BRT affect emergency vehicles?" at 2:12.
The animation shows bus movements at:
- East 14th and Estudillo, San Leandro
- East 14th and Georgia, San Leandro
- International and 85th, Oakland
- International and 82nd, Oakland
- Broadway and 20th, Oakland
- Telegraph and 49th, Oakland
- Telegraph and 51st, Oakland
- Telegraph and Webster, Berkeley
- Telegraph and Ashby, Berkeley
- Telegraph and Durant, Berkeley
- Telegraph and Bancroft, Berkeley
The federal government recommended a $25 million grant for the project this week, so one can assume a final design is out. Look for more information soon.

What's the current status of approval by San Leandro?
is this still feasible if both SL and Berkeley reject it?
