Disco Volante opens for business in downtown Oakland

It's open!

After three months of serving lunch only, new club/ eatery, Disco Volante (“Flying Saucer” in Italian) has opened for dinner and live entertainment.

The kitchen is headed by Douglas Bernstein (formerly of Eccolo, Bacar and Farallon), and the ownership group includes Oakland nightlife impresarios Damon Gallagher (Ghost Town Gallery) ,Tim Tolle (Radio Bar and The Ruby Room) and food writer Kevin Cook (The OakBook).

According to Gallagher, the spot will be an affordable live music venue with an average $5 cover on weekends, while serving quality farm to table eats for lunch and dinner. The menu includes home-made sodas, a burger with bacon jam and enough locavore gourmet treats to satisfy any foodie.

The  28-square foot stage and piano should keep Oaklanders looking for a place to hang out and hear live music happy.

"Disco Volante offers an all-day bistro-style menu and dinner specials with a prix-fixe option from 6 to 10 p.m.," Cook said.

The restaurant will open at 11:30 a.m. during the week and 6 p.m. on weekends. It will serve both food and drink until midnight during the week and 1:30 a.m. weekend nights. The restaurant is available for special events and will host the InOak business mixer on this Thursday, Feb. 10.
