Trainings
Non-profit community site Oakland Local is both a media platform and a capacity building organization. Trainings, workshops, one-on one coaching, internships and mentoring are at the heart of our goal to help Oakland's underserved communities make their voices heard and their concerns discussed.
In February and March 2011, thanks to the generousity of The California Endowment, we are offering training in telling your story and using social media to get to word out to food justice groups, healthy-food focused organizations and their allies and volunteers. For more information, see our registration pages.
More than 50% of our time goes to working with community groups and non-profits, new local contributors and local residents who want to learn how to contribute to the site and improve their use of the web as a communications, outreach, and organizing tool. We regularly partner with local groups and train them to use media; we also offer one on one and small group support to individuals.
If you are interested in learning how to use media as a form of social action, want to learn how to write and produce news, would like to contribute to Oakland Local and need some ideas about how to get started--we can work with you.
