So the letter the City Council asked City Attorney John Russo to write back in January to the DOJ about Oakland's plans to have industrial pot farms has now gotten a response. It's pretty straightforward: industrial pot farms are illegal, and if Oakland permits them, we're going to come after the city.

One in six people in Alameda County does not have enough money for food.

The winter months are challenging for the Alameda County Food Bank and its clients. Contributions of food and money drop off after the holidays, while the need remains high.

Until March 1, every dollar given will be matched by a friend of the food bank.

We're rounding up to Mayor Jean Quan's first 30 days in office, and it's clear there's a new emphasis on the chief exec's visibility.  Even without the jam-packed photo-op schedule for Jan 24-30, Quan seems to be out and about more in 24 days than Dellums was in his whole last year in office.

Sometimes I ask myself why I am overweight and why I haven’t lost the 20 pounds I put on 16 months ago.

Usually, a little voice is ready with excuses, but deep-down I know the truth: I’m too interested in food to cut back as consistently as I should and I’m too busy putting other priorities, like my work, in front of the kind of intensive exercise program I really need to not just maintain my weight, or drop a couple pounds, but to get the fat off.
