Which neighborhoods are hardest hit by foreclosures? How many foreclosed homes have become a vacant public nuisance?

Bank-owned blighted foreclosures will be on display Thursday during a two-hour public tour aimed at increasing blight enforcement and big bank accountability.

City Councilwomen Desley Brooks and Jane Brunner will join, ACCE - Alliance of Californians for Community Empowerment -  and local residents to view three currently undisclosed locations where blight plagues city blocks.

In an area considered mostly destitute and dangerous, a movement is growing to bring commerce, interest and hope back to East Oakland.

The East MacArthur Merchant’s Association (EMMA) came together three years ago, initially to build support amongst each other as small business owners, but now has blossomed into a full grown community-centered organization.

We're cleaning up, reaching out, and changing our neighborhood hand-in-hand. Participants will march, perform outreach to neighbors and clean up the street. The march is in alignment with Mayor Jean Quan's inaugural call to action to take back the streets of Oakland, block by block.
